Villarreal got its first points of the season with a 3-1 victory over Real Betis. An early goal for Sergio Leon gave the visitors the lead; Carlos Bacca pounced on a poor pass from goalkeeper Adán to even the score at the half-hour mark, and after the halftime break Samu Castillejo and Enes Ünal added goals for Villarreal.
Much better offensive display than in the first two matches of the season, though defensive frailties were still noteworthy and worrying. Goalkeeper Barbosa came up with a big save on Tello to deny a go-ahead goal before Casti’s goal, and then Ünal’s insurance goal helped everyone breathe easy.
Next up for the Submarine is a trip to Alavès, who have no points from their first three matches. That’ll be the early Sunday kickoff. Endavant!
